remove washing machine smell

Washing machines are supposed to provide fresh, clean clothes.  But due to detergent residue,  they are prone to get molds which results in bad odor.Front Load washers use rubber door gasket for preventing water leakage. This becomes  another breading ground for bacteria and mildew. Nowadays new washing machines like LG come with inbuilt function for bacterial and fungus removal.

Here are the steps for removing sewage and rotten egg smell at home

  1. Take out 1/4 cup of baking soda and mix it with water. Add this solution to your washing machines detergent dispenser.
  2. Add two cups of white vinegar to the drum and run normal wash cycle at high temperature setting.
  3. Remove any remaining rough spots using sponge and white vinegar.

To prevent further development of smell, keep the gasket clean and moisture free. Always use detergent made for high efficiency washing machines.
